Subject

Fancy Dress, MSA

Description

Fancy Dress (FD) is an annual event that traditionally gathers the student body together for a night of music, dancing and social interaction. The event is meant to attract all corners of the student body, yet in its history has celebrated themes that ostracized students of color. In 1988, FD announced that the theme would be "The Great Reconciliation Ball," a title that disturbed and disappointed black students, especially after the previous year's theme, "Africa: The Dark Continent." This event brought attention to the national Jet magazine, prompting this published article under the "Education" section of Jet.
